🚴 Cyclists and Pedestrians - Share the Road

As a car driver, you share the road with unprotected road users. They are vulnerable - you have the responsibility.

Cyclists - what you need to know:

• Cyclists may use the roadway
• They need space - keep at least 1.5 meters when passing
• Cyclists can be unpredictable - especially children
• They're hard to see in darkness
• Always check blind spot

Be extra careful:

• At intersections - cyclists can come fast
• At cycle crossings
• When turning right - cyclists may be in blind spot
• At bus stops - cyclists may pass the bus
• In roundabouts - cyclists often have same rules as cars

Cycle crossing vs cycle passage:

• Cycle crossing (marking + sign): Cyclist has priority
• Cycle passage (marking only): You as driver have priority, but must adapt

Pedestrians:

• Always have priority at crosswalk
• You must stop and let them cross
• Be extra careful near schools and playgrounds
• Children may run out suddenly

When you MUST stop for pedestrians:

• At crosswalk if someone is waiting or crossing
• When turning and pedestrians are crossing
• On pedestrian streets
• At school patrols

Door opening:

• Always look back before opening car door
• Cyclists can come fast and quietly
• Use "Dutch reach" - open with far hand

In case of accident:

• Always stop
• Call 112 for personal injury
• You may be liable for damages if you break rules
