⛰️ Hill Start - Techniques for Slopes

Hill start is an important technique that many find difficult. With the right method, it becomes easy.

Basic technique (manual transmission):

  1. Stop with foot brake and apply handbrake
  2. Put in first gear
  3. Give a little gas (about 2000-2500 rpm)
  4. Release clutch to friction point (car "pulls")
  5. Release handbrake while giving more gas
  6. Continue releasing clutch smoothly

The friction point:

  • This is where the clutch starts to grip
  • Car "wants" to move forward
  • Engine sounds slightly different
  • You feel the car "tensing"

Common mistakes:

  • Releasing clutch too fast → Car stalls
  • Too little gas → Car rolls backward
  • Forgetting handbrake → Stress and uncertainty
  • Looking at pedals instead of road

With automatic transmission:

  • Keep foot on brake
  • Shift to D (Drive)
  • Release brake carefully - car moves forward automatically
  • Give gas as needed

Tips for success:

  • Practice on a quiet hill without traffic
  • Learn your car's friction point
  • ALWAYS use handbrake at first
  • Don't be afraid to give plenty of gas
  • Eyes forward - not on pedals!

In the driving test: The examiner wants to see you master the technique safely without rolling backward.
