🍺 Alcohol and Drugs - Zero Tolerance

Drunk driving is a serious crime that costs lives. Sweden has strict laws and harsh penalties.
Limits in Sweden:
- 0.2 per mille = Drunk driving (crime)
- 1.0 per mille = Aggravated drunk driving (serious crime)
- Drugs = ZERO TOLERANCE (regardless of amount)
Penalty for drunk driving:
- Fine or prison up to 6 months
- License revoked (minimum 12 months)
- Alcolock may be required to get license back
Penalty for aggravated drunk driving:
- Prison up to 2 years
- License revoked (minimum 24 months)
- Often requires alcolock and medical certificate
How alcohol affects driving:
- Impaired reaction ability
- Poor judgment and risk assessment
- Tunnel vision
- Impaired coordination
- False self-confidence
Rules of thumb for alcohol:
- One "drink" (beer/glass wine/4 cl spirits) ≈ 0.15-0.2 per mille
- Body breaks down about 0.1-0.15 per mille/hour
- Sleep does NOT speed up breakdown
- Coffee does NOT help
- You can still be affected the next day
Medications:
- Many medicines affect driving ability
- Read package insert - warning triangle = don't drive
- Ask doctor or pharmacist
Consequences beyond punishment:
- Shame and guilt
- Problems at work
- Destroyed relationships
- Lifelong injuries to victims
- You could kill someone
Best advice: Going to drive? Don't drink. Have you been drinking? Don't drive.
