📱 Mobile Phone Use - Dangerous Distraction

Using your phone while driving is one of the most common causes of accidents today.
What does the law say?
- It's forbidden to hold the phone in hand while driving
- Ban applies even at red lights and in queues
- Fine: 1500 SEK + 1 point
- Repeated offenses can lead to license revocation
Allowed:
- Hands-free (headset, car speaker system)
- Phone in holder for GPS navigation
- Talking hands-free
- Voice control
Prohibited:
- Holding phone in hand
- Writing or reading SMS/messages
- Scrolling social media
- Taking selfies or filming
- Playing games
Why is it so dangerous?
- 3 seconds looking at phone at 80 km/h = 67 meters blind driving
- Reaction time worsens by up to 50%
- Same effect as 0.8 per mille alcohol
- You miss traffic information and risks
Statistics:
- Phone use contributes to about 25% of all accidents
- Accident risk increases 4 times during phone calls
- Risk increases 23 times when texting
Tips to avoid temptation:
- Put phone in glove compartment
- Activate "do not disturb while driving"
- Stop if you MUST use the phone
- Let passengers handle navigation and calls
