🅿️ Parallel Parking - The Art of Parking

Parallel parking is one of the most feared maneuvers, but with the right technique it becomes easy.

Step-by-step technique:

1. Find the right spot:

  • Space should be about 1.5 times car length
  • Stop next to front car, about 50-70 cm distance
  • Rear end in line with other car's rear end

2. Start reversing:

  • Turn steering wheel one turn to the right
  • Reverse slowly while looking in right side mirror
  • Continue until you see entire rear of front car in left side mirror

3. Straighten the wheel:

  • Turn wheel straight (one turn to the left)
  • Continue reversing straight
  • Aim to enter the gap at an angle

4. Turn fully:

  • When front of car is level with rear of front car
  • Turn wheel fully to the left
  • Reverse until car is parallel with curb

5. Adjust:

  • Drive forward and adjust distance to curb (10-20 cm is ideal)
  • Leave space for cars in front and behind

Important to consider:

  • Use mirrors and look behind
  • Watch for pedestrians and cyclists
  • Drive slowly - no need to stress
  • Dare to reverse out and try again if it goes wrong

In driving test:

  • Usually get 2-3 attempts
  • Examiner looks at technique and safety
  • Car must be parallel and close to curb

Tips:

  • Practice, practice, practice - requires muscle memory
  • Find reference points that work for you
  • Always start from the same starting position
